Compress JPG Online

Most JPGs are saved at a much higher quality setting than anyone can perceive. Phone cameras and photo editors routinely export at quality 95-100, which doubles or triples the file size compared to quality 80 with no visible difference on screens.

Smaller images upload faster, send over chat apps and email without hitting attachment limits, load faster on websites (which also helps your search ranking), and take up less storage. A 6 MB photo can usually become a 1 MB photo that looks exactly the same.

Compression here means re-encoding, not resizing: your image keeps its original dimensions and aspect ratio. Only the storage efficiency changes.

The compressor analyzes each image and re-encodes it with mozjpeg-class settings tuned for photographs: perceptually-weighted quantization keeps detail where your eye notices it and saves aggressively where it doesn't.

It also removes metadata blocks — EXIF camera settings, embedded GPS location, color-profile duplicates and preview thumbnails. Stripping GPS data is also a privacy win when you share photos publicly.

There is no watermark on paid plans, no resolution cap, and the tool never recompresses an image that would come out larger — if your JPG is already optimally encoded, you get it back untouched.

Screenshots and graphics with hard edges (text, UI, charts) compress better as PNG — JPG creates faint halos around sharp edges. Photographs, on the other hand, should almost always be JPG.

If you need the image for the web at a fixed display size, resize it to roughly the display resolution before compressing; a 4000-pixel-wide photo shown in a 800-pixel column wastes most of its bytes.
